Common Sense is not so common folks..........

Hello there!

Happy New year to everyone! Sorry for being so late in the greeting but for some reason saying it right at the beginning of the year seems like robbing the cradle...or stealing candy from a baby! Hehehe....Waiting 2 weeks is like breaking in your brand spanking new BMW...Give it a good spin around the block a few times before it comes from the factory!...After all that President's Choice olive oil is not the real thing is it? I mean if it doesn't say extra virgin cold pressed olive oil and you don't smell olives what's the point in buying it right? So to assume the New year is coming in the way you want it you might as well take it by the horns and start living it:There is somehow too much of a shock when the New year comes whistling through...It's better to get used to the idea that 2008 is a normal thing or else we all will be living in the past and having flashbacks galore as we rehash why 2007 flew by so quickly....going through the motions in 2007 was a common theme but can we take the New year by the throat and command a different scenerio? Good God verifiedbeliever why are you starting the new year like a ridum Canada cowboy bronco rider!? Can you please be easy on your fellow Canadians? After all you have all year to complain and tell your stories as eloquently as possible...My profound apologies to everyone! I truly hope everyone's New year in waiting is an adventure which makes everyone smile as each day unfolds the mystery of who you are and what defines you. Now hold on tight the coming year will be a wild ride for some and to really be up for the ride is to be forwarned, focused and prepared!

The shock of 2008 was really too much for me and the above entry Common Sense is the result of my fingers going numb trying to figure out what should be the topic to drive the New Year in! Well.............. True Common Sense really is not so common is it folks? I mean let us look at some examples of how people think and act....Let's take those pen manufacturers like Bic Pens...How many times have you lost the top of your pen? Well in my case thousands...and I keep buying those stupid pens every month or so....after loosing god knows how many pen tops the ink has dried prematurely and I'am left without a pen...until I go to the nearest convenience store and pay 89 cents for another one. Is this logical? Is this using my common sense which I always thought I had? Well to be honest let's examine the chain of events which led me to use the dam thing in the first place..First of all Bic is a well known name as far as pens are considered...There are ads all over the place and I'am a real sucker for a cheaper but improperly designed pen..Why badly designed? Well the company who designed them are laughing all the way to the bank...Every time you loose the tops of those stupid pens the ink dries quicker then normal and you increase the bottom line profits of the Bic Pen manufacturers! They like it that way!You loose more of them so therefore you buy more of them... You buy them because they are cheaper then the classier click type fountain pens and there is a thing called weekly or monthly cash flow which tells you to buy the cheapest pen around...and off you go to the nearest store to buy something that is not worth the price...The top is lost and now you can't clip the pen on your shirt pocket and the ink could even run on your favorite shirt if you happen to have one with a hole in the middle of the pen... while you curse to high heavens as to why you think the way you do...Like I said common sense is not so common.. and after writing this entry on it I will vow never to buy another stupid Bic pen again....Why? Well now I see that Iam guilty to faulty thinking just as much as the other guy or girl...Click type better quality pens are the answer and sometimes I feel real lucky and find a month's supply of pens at libraries and on the floor...To bad the tops are missing and I usually pass right by those!!(Hehehehe)

Stupid, silly, and simple are usually not on people's minds and that is why the most simplest thing can make a person look stupid and make it look like they lack common sense...Let's take another example...Every time I go shopping I cringe and curse to myself as to how uncommon common sense is! The Local supermarket is a classic example of this. If people drive the way they push their buggies there would a pileup nightmare on every highway in North America! I constantly have to tell people to park their buggies at the side away from the main buggy trail. They seem to park them everywhere except the proper place. I do at times have this intense feeling of buggy rage as I contemplate ramming that shoppers cart to smitherines..My inner voice tells me to cool it and I immediately take hold of my senses while I use the common sense that the bigga bigga bossa gave me! Yes my dear people ....Common sense! I do have it! Or is there a little area in my brain that overrides my stupidity? (Hehehe)

Yea........ there is an old saying "In simplicity there is genuis" Simple enough huh? Who ever said that was a genuis that's for sure! The most simplest things are not on people's minds and that's the reason why they are walking around like zombies straight out of the twilight zone! They are thinking of things that do not pertain to the task at hand and when the mind is not focused on what should come natural it bypasses the conscious mind and is then buried in the subconscious...Is that why I can't remember being married to my ex wife? (Hehehehe)

I can talk and talk until the cows come home and to tell you the truth this is a really zany world out there...I mean...Let's take another example: Everyone and their cousins will tell you they believe in the power of love rather then the love to power...You see there are thousands of offices around the world where power struggles or control issues are a fact of life ...To get a pay check in today's world means you have to put yourself lower then you actually are because your supervisor or boss thinks he is superior to you and he could have that special authority to fire you at a moment's notice...This assumed power is flaunted and it's one of the main reasons why a lot of people quit their jobs or don't even bother getting another one...They even do this subconsciously and there are times when you may feel weak or mentally helpless to this power...You hate going to work because of this arrogant attitude...You go through the motions because you have a family to support and rent to pay. There are people who don't recognize you in their circle of power within an organization...Treating you like you are nothing and dangling the carrot of prosperity as they close the doors to their profit sharing meetings. Believe me this happens all the time. For example, in an industrial factory setting, I know a friend who worked in a line placing products on to a conveyour belt and the other workers would deliberately speed up the line to confuse her. They would give her the cold shoulder because she was new on the job...You see these types of people do this because they have this false sense of security and know that you don't quite fit in to their inner circle of power yet...So they love to power over you rather then show love toward you...The common sense approach would be to show a caring and helpful attidude toward anyone new on the job...but in the real world it's seldom done...A sad but true state of affairs in the world of work.

Everyone knows what love is but not to many people love or respect others...unconditionally...there is always something that taints the value of people....Of course this is a very difficult example of common sense...Love should be front right and centre in this life but common sense takes a back seat to greed and the survival of Corporate America and it's forever pursuit of steady bottom line profits. The ultimate common sense is: The power of love should be the main idea rather then the love of power. True leadership is not power hungry it is the desire to share this power with others which makes leadership valuable. Let's take another example of faulty thinking and if this public figure would realize he was doing it maybe he could correct it. Let's take Mr. Murack O'Bama I think his name is...The democratic hopeful for President. If people would use common sense they would realize he was trying to manipulate the electorate in voting for him ...His trick of him being shown with a portrait of the Late Martin Luther King was a cheap shot power grab...Who cares if he is black...black people everywhere will vote for him not because he's a good candidate but because he is young and also black....Those are overrated qualities for picking a qualified candidate...What he lacks in experience he will make up for his race and youth...Those are very dangerous reasons to elect someone...People know that he doesn't have enough political experience. Most of the electorate think that those characteristics would compensate for the lack of experience. This is a dangerous way to vote and I would never vote this way. Why did Mr. Juliani drop out of the race so soon?.....Well his name Juliani has an italian ring to it.The pulse of the populace would skip a beat just because of the implication of an italian sounding name equating with the under world. Even though he has no connections whatsoever. Sad but true, the public lacks experience in human resource management. President hopefuls understand this and that's why they try to manipulate the electorate. If Juliani knew how the electorate thought he could have an excellent shot at becoming president. All he had to do is calm America's fears of what his name implies. He should go on TV and look America in the eye (like Kennedy did) and try to communicate to the electorate his intense desire to become president and what the job means to him. He should demonstrate his accomplishments on TV and must assume the electorate is a potential employer just like he was in a job interview for a CEO position. He should demonstrate how he almost single handledly drastically lowered the crime rate in New York City. He should look at all americans with the majestic eye of an eagel. After all, the national symbol of democratic freedom in the US is the eagel. Anyway enough of politics! We will know soon enough who the next president will be. Hopefully it will be a person who has experience and can relate to other politicians and satisfy the American people and the world. Oh no I made a gigantic boo boo!!!!!!! My inner common sense corrected me and I have to say I was deluding myself in thinking that a President could do all this! The track record of Great American Presidents is ultra thin so it's nice to dream and hope. Right? (Hehehehe!)

Well so far we are talking subjective common sense....with the big picture thrown in for good measure...Let's just understand what true common sense is. It's defined (not the dictionary version) (but let me know if my version is aok)...It's defined as simple awareness which at first seems obvious but somehow not in the consciousness of people...Let's discuss a simple example: As you know the love affair with the automobile is never ending and it doesn't matter if the weather report says there is a tornado or that there is a huge blizzard with ice pellets. People are not going to stop driving their cars. Of course many will heed the advice of weathermen and stay home or take the bus to work but a good portion will take that automobile and behave like the postman..the mail must get through...or the mounties will get their man and finally I will drive under any conditions because guess what?....I love my car! Well...there are some who will drive with no snow tires and slip and slide and hope some good samaritan will push their car a bit just to get it going...I mean...if they used common sense or were aware of the circumstances around them they would not go out when a winter storm is arriving or if they did would make sure the snow tires were on ....or better yet...would it be a hard deceision to take public transit? I mean if the love affair is so deep and sincere it's like the love is blind theory and nothing will change their thinking...So in conclusion...there are biases, quirks of preferences, and plain old stubbornness or mule type thinking (previous entry) which clouds the obvious!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa common sense is absent when your husband is an abuser and the marriage was like this for 20 years....constant arguing and his temper goes skyward as he sucker punches his wife....She has marks to prove it but never wants to leave him for the sake of the kids....or for the very fact that change is more terrible then the actual abuse....at least he's home...Sad but true...the mind is more comfortable with familiarity then the uncertainty of change.

Well in conclusion let us all get aquainted with our surroundings and the circumstances around us...It's true that timing is everything and if the very simple act of doing the right thing was actually acted upon at the very moment of occurence then life would not be so hard Would it? The alcoholic would attend AAA meetings and would realize the common sense in abstaining from drinking . The smoker will realize the common sense in abstaining from cigarettes because it makes sense...to save 3000 a year, to save the government millions in hospital care and therefore would mean that hospitals would be more efficient and hospital waiting times would be more reasonable. It would mean that you would take the advice of your elders and stay in school instead of hanging around with your drinking buddies or drug buddies. Common sense is really doing the right thing when the opportunity presents itself. Such as: Protecting your dignity with that guy you like...realizing that if he really loves you he would wait till after marriage. If you had the comm0n sense to know that if he gets mad when you refuse his sexual advances it could mean that he is only in the relationship for sex and really is not a candidate for that special soulmate you are seeking. If he is inconsiderate of your feelings and demands this or that then common sense must drag you to the obvious conclusion....He 's not in it for love ! Common sense should tell you to give him his pink slip of departure. It would also mean that if a person had common sense he would realize that he would think a win of 200 dollars at the casino or the race track was his money and not the casino's or the race track's. He would know when to walk and would realize that in any gambling situation timing is everything. He would utilize and leverage super control and would only bet when he has the edge. He realizes that statistics at the race track can be used to properly assess the chances of a particular bet. He also realizes that betting on a horse just because it starts with his birth month or even has his daughter's name is ludicrous. Or better yet he would only bet on games which he has a fighting chance and would realize that slot machines are the biggest scam going. He sits and thinks why they are called the one armed bandit and realizes that a collective maxim such as this really was meant to warn people. It's ok to go to the casino or even the slots but one must use common sense to realize that if you are up 200 dollars it's time to relax and quit for the day. It's your money not the casino's! Taking 20 dollars with you to the slots or casino is a good idea and when that is used up then it's time to go and your common sense tells you that using over that amount means you are going over your entertainment budget. Sadly, people do not use this common sense and there are many people who gamble day after day and are really suffering financially. They could even loose their homes, car and family just because common sense is not so common.

So let's use our little clump of grey matter and our common sense and resist the tempetation to eat chips, chocolate bars, high fat foods and junk foods of all types...not because its bad for you but because we will resist the obvious knee jerk reaction that it is what we need. We don't need comfort foods...Of course they make you feel good....Why? Well because of familarity and the aquired taste it gives your taste buds...The mind will resist things only if it is trained to do that through repetetion, and desire. Go to it! If you are going out today....Don't forget the obvious...your gloves , mitts, and hat?! (Hehehehe)

Stay tuned for the next entry of the verifiedbeliever! Love yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
